The preservation of American cultural history through music is one way to inform, educate and captivate current and future generations. The Ozark Anthology is just such a resource. The people, places and other subject matter comprising this body of music, serves to preserve this vanishing legacy.
In the early 1800’s, a migration of mostly itinerate farm families began to move from Appalachia westward to Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi. Soon after, the government began offering low priced land to these mid-south migrants to move on to the Ozarks and settle. This raw land was unfriendly, and the people struggled, but these hardy souls found a way. In the shadow of these mountains, their legacy resides. The Ozarks are a cultural enigma, a place of wilderness and beauty, strife and tranquility.
The Ozarks are a place good people call home.
The Ozark Anthology songs resurrect the forgotten characters and events of the past using a modern hill country sound all its own. These songs present Ozark people in a light of courage and determination. The audience will be whisked away on a musical journey and enjoy a new-found appreciation and perspective for the people of the Ozarks.
A lifelong journeyman musician from the Missouri river bottoms, a published songwriter and a touring musician, Rick Gibson has emerged as a musical orator for those who have grown up on Ozark dirt forging his own roots-rock-americana style approach to Ozark music. Heavily influenced by his gritty guitar tone, alternate tunings, and vivid lyrical stories, his music is a true “hip-billy” experience, self-described as “American roots, meets Ozark dirt”.
